Lorna Tolentino and Rudy Fernandez will celebrate their silver wedding anniversary on June 1, 2008, and the couple is determined to mark the event with a trip to St. Peregrine chapel in San Juan Capistrano, California.
“When we visited the place last October, we made a promise to return on our 25th anniversary. We plan to keep that promise,” Lorna told a group of movie writers during a press conference for Ascorbic Poten-Cee, a brand of health supplement that she endorses.
St. Peregrine is the patron saint of people like Rudy, who are afflicted with cancer.
The actor suffers from ampullary cancer, which involves a small muscle at the point where the bile duct empties into the small intestine. It is a rare form of cancer, the doctors have told Lorna. Not even in the US has the illness been researched well enough, she said.
Rudy is currently undergoing radiation therapy at the Cardinal Santos Memorial Hospital in Greenhills, San Juan. Lorna said that when her husband feels strong enough, he plays badminton with his close friends Jinggoy Estrada and Phillip Salvador, or boxing with his kids. “He also has lots of time to watch telenovelas now,” Lorna said.
“Mostly, we run to God in moments like this,” she added. “This is also a time to realize there are many things that should never be taken for granted, like one’s health.”
